Postdoctoral and/or MD-PhD Position in Prostate MRI

at HFR and the University of Fribourg

We offer a postdoctoral and/or MD-PhD position at the Department of Medicine of the University of Fribourg in close collaboration with the Department of Radiology at the Cantonal Hospital of Fribourg (HFR), Switzerland. You will be part of a project that is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and aims to determine whether quantitative parameters derived from multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging can be used as biomarkers to improve detection of clinically significant prostate cancer and to monitor disease progression in patients undergoing active surveillance. We offer an interesting and stimulating workplace with flexible working hours in and interdisciplinary research group consisting of motivated urologists, radiologists, mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists with a wide international network of collaborators that strive to improve prostate cancer management and patient care. You will be working in close collaboration with an MR physicist, attending to the medical aspects of the project. Full-time employment is desired but working part time is feasible. In the context of a full-time position it is possible to engage in clinical work part time. The postdoctoral position is intended to facilitate the qualification of young scientist and offers the possibility to habilitate.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop hypotheses and experimental plans
  • Assistance in preparation of grant proposals
  • Assistance in writing applications for ethical approvals
  • Recruiting patients at HFR
  • Acquisition and analysis of imaging data
  • Present research results at international conferences and meetings
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Habilitation candidates are required to participate in supervision of students and teaching

Qualification Profile

  • Master’s degree in medicine, preferably with experience in radiological imaging
  • Excellent academic track record
  • Driven by scientific curiosity, research experience is an advantage but not a prerequisite
  • High degree of motivation and ability to work independently and complete tasks efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on teamwork, willingness to work closely with team members
  • Excellent ability to communicate and write in English
  • Habilitation candidates need to be fluent in either French or German for teaching

Duration

3 years with the possibility of extension
