The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W 3) for Medical Physics in Radiology (Succession of Prof. J. Hennig)
in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology to be filled by April 1st, 2020.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of medical physics in radiology in research and teaching. She/he will be the director of the Division of Medical Imaging Physics of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
The professorship is dedicated to research and teaching in the field of Medical Physics with focus on Medical Imaging in particular Magnetic Resonance (MR). Candidates will be expected to develop research programs within the research emphasis of the Faculty of Medicine for technological and methodological developments of MR and their application in basic science, preclinical, translational, and clinical science as well as clinical applications.
In addition, new approaches in Computational Imaging are part of the research profile. Key areas of applications are neurology and neuroscience, oncology, and cardiovascular applications.
Candidates are expected to present an excellent track record in pertinent field research with a wide scientific focus and especially demonstrate successful accomplishments in translation of the scientific and technical developments into clinical practice. The ideal candidates are expected to pursue highly innovative imaging research projects at the frontiers of radiologic science and should demonstrate their ability to successfully raise extramural funding. The candidates should furthermore have experience in scientific leadership of large projects. Broad international network, industrial collaborations in the area of MR technology and applications, and experience in IP affairs are of advantage.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in natural sciences (e. g. physics, engineering, computer science), educational qualification, an exceptional doctorate degree, and an excellent publication record. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG).
Substantial experience in scientific leadership and activities as adviser for young scientists, as demonstrated by successful supervision of Ph. D. theses, diploma, master and bachelor projects is expected.
The position is tenured according to § 50 para 1 LHG.
