The University of Bremen is a mid-sized German university with 290 professorships and almost 20,000 enrolled students and offers a broad range of subjects and outstanding, internationally renowned research. Within this highly attractive framework the following DFG-funded Research Training group has been established in the Department of Production Engineering which is one of the top departments in Germany in terms of extramural funding. The Research Training Group MIMENIMA (DFG GRK 1860) The employment is fixed-term and governed by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract, §2 I (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. We invite highly motivated, outstanding and team-oriented graduate students (Master) graduating in 2019 (or graduating in 2018) with a sound background in materials science, physics, chemistry, biotechnology, mechanical, chemical engineering or computer sciences and related areas to apply. A group of internationally renowned researchers together with excellent funding provides unique opportunities to develop your career in a vibrant scientific environment. The exceptional research idea of MIMENIMA is the conditioning of novel porous ceramic structures and their surfaces for applications in important emerging fields of energy, environmental, chemical processing, catalysis, bio- and space technology. Solutions in this area will help to preserve an intact environment, to implement renewable energy concepts and to develop new process technologies. This challenging and interdisciplinary research field covers the following subtopics and offers 10 multifaceted research projects: Material Development Process Analysis Basic Research Experiments for Mass Transport in Porous Materials Modelling and Simulation Special Application of Porous Ceramics Further information on the open 10 research projects and the background of the participating institutes is available at: https://www.mimenima.uni-bremen.de/. In addition to this multidisciplinary research program MIMENIMA offers an exceptional educational program with tailored scientific lectures, visiting scientist seminars, lab courses, soft-skill workshops, summer schools, research visits at international cooperation partners, a mentoring program for the career development of women and an ongoing coaching of your scientific work. The central aim of the educational training is an interdisciplinary and structured education at the highest scientific level. Establishing networks with top international research groups is part of this training. MIMENIMA values cooperation and teamwork. The participation in the educational programme is required. The University of Bremen intends to further increase the share of women in academic employment; women are explicitly encouraged to apply.
