JOINT PHD PROJECT WITH A YEAR ABROAD

Research Centre Jülich and The University of Melbourne Postgraduate Academy

A 3-Year PhD Program is currently available to work on a joint project with The University of Melbourne’s Brain Centre Imaging Unit, exploring novel multiple quantum filtered sodium MRI, relaxometry and compartmental quantification methods. The aim of the project is to push the boundaries of state-of-the-art methodology and to explore the fundamental biophysical aspects of metabolism in healthy subjects and patients, in unprecedented detail, using ultra-high fields.

This project will give you the chance to:

  • develop expertise in the field of sodium nuclear magnetic resonance Imaging
  • experience research and life abroad as part of the international scientific community
  • play a role in a unique team of interdisciplinary researchers engaging in neuroscientific, biophysical and medical research

Successful candidates will have:

  • completed a physics or medical physics degree (preferably with an MRI related master thesis)
  • a good understanding of the methods, issues and challenges of (x-nuclei) MRI
  • expertise in analytical calculations and programming (C/C++, Python, Matlab)
  • the determination to push themselves to the limit to engage in groundbreaking research
  • a collaborative ‘can do’ attitude and a strong sense of team spirit
  • the capability to communicate fluently in English - both verbally and in writing

Funding is provided for three years. The position is available immediately.
