Department: Comprehensive Heart Failure Center
Location: Würzburg

Job Description:

The Comprehensive Heart Failure Center Würzburg (CHFC) is an Integrated Research and Treatment Center supported by the German Ministry of Education and Research. More than 120 scientists conduct interdisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical research and provide innovative patient care in the field of prevention of heart failure and its medical complications. The CHFC’s vision is to improve the awareness of heart failure as an urgent health challenge in society, to connect existing excellent basic science and clinical research and to implement preventive strategies for diagnostics and management as well as new therapies. In 2017, the CHFC moved into a modern research building comprising four departments, i.e. imaging, translational research, genetics, and clinical research.
The CHFC seeks to appoint a

Machine Learning/Deep Learning

The Department of Cardiovascular Imaging develops, deploys, and performs research on a variety of biomedical imaging technologies, in particular ultrahighfield MRI of the heart and organs interacting with the heart (i.e., brain). Imaging research is complemented by an electronics/coil lab for MRI hardware development and working groups on computational cardiology and innovative MRI contrast including hyperpolarization technology. We operate the first off-the-shelf Siemens Magnetom Terra 7T MRI system worldwide, as well as a Bruker Pharmascan 70/16 experimental MRI system. By special organizational measures full translational imaging path, i.e. from mouse over pigs to humans (and back), is available.

We seek a postdoctoral or doctoral scientist to implement machine and deep learning algorithms for the image-based prediction of cardiac disease.

The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic, visionary and collaboration-oriented scientist with an intrinsic scientific motivation. Prior experience in the development and/or deployment of machine and deep learning in medicine would be helpful, as would be experience in the field of magnetic resonance imaging and/or computational fluid dynamics. Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, medical doctors from a variety of medical disciplines, and veterinarians is essential.

We offer a full-time post-doctoral position with market conform wages (TVL-E13 or TVL-E13 50%) in a large, multidisciplinary research center in the heart of Europe. The position is immediately available. Payment will be according to individual qualifications and TV-L. Disabled applicants will be considered preferentially in case of equivalent qualifications. Currently, the position is limited for 18 month. Extension of the position is intended.

Applicants should submit their complete application document (full CV including certificates, motivation letter, names and addresses of two references) in a single PDF file to:
