At the Institute of Radiooncology – OncoRay scientists specializing in medicine, physics, biology and IT work together to crucially improve the treatment of cancer by administering radiation therapy that is biologically-personalized and technicallyoptimized. The Institute invites applications as

PhD Student (m/f) for MR-guided Protontherapy project

The position will be available from 01 July 2018. The employment contract is limited to three years.

Elaboration of scientific results in the project "MRI-guided proton therapy" as a basis for the preparation of the thesis, in this context:

  • study of the appropriate Iiterature
  • planning, conducting, analysis and evaluation of experiments, in particular at the University Proton Therapy Facility Dresden and at the MRI scanners at OncoRay
  • elaboration of scientific outputs in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided particle therapy as a member of the research group Laser-Radiooncology and in very close cooperation with the research group MRI-based Physical Radiation Treatment Planning
  • spoken and written publication of scientific results
  • supervision of pupils and students (e.g. student internship and bachelor/master thesis)


  • very good Master's degree in Physics or closely related technical/natural science studies
  • high degree of independence, excellent team working, good communication skills and ability of proactive action
  • experience with physical aspects of MRI is desirable
  • very good command of English language
