Job Description:

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

The Division of Medical Physics in Radiology is seeking a

Postdoctoral Fellow
MR-Guided Radiotherapy
(Ref-No. 228/2017)

The Division of Medical Physics in Radiology is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the area of MR-Guided Radiotherapy.

An MR-guided linear accelerator (ViewRay MRIdian) is currently being installed at the University Hospital Heidelberg and will be operational by the end of 2017. The DKFZ is part of the Heidelberg consortium for MR-guided radiotherapy that will be conducting research on this system. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with interest in pursuing research projects within one or more of the following areas:

  • MR sequence development for optimal inter- and intrafractional imaging
  • Development of real-time imaging strategies to enable motion tracking, ultrafast registration, re-planning, and dose accumulation
  • Establishment of functional imaging approaches, e.g. perfusion and ventilation imaging of the lungs, for optimization of radiotherapy treatment regimens
  • Support of clinical evaluation of MR-guided radiotherapy within trials comparing it to standard radiotherapy

Equipment at the DFKZ includes MR imagers with field strengths from 1.5 to 7 Tesla, including one with the same software baseline as the MRIdian for sequence validation.

Your profile:
Successful candidates will become members of a multidisciplinary, international team composed of physicists, engineers, physicians, and computer scientists. Candidates should hold a PhD degree in physics, engineering, or an allied scientific or technical field. You should possess keen interest in scientific research and be able to work independently; you should also have good oral and written language skills in both German (ideal) and English (mandatory). It is intended that project results be presented at international conferences and published in high-impact journals. Motivation and team-work combined with excellent communication skills are expected.

Experience in the following areas is highly desirable:

  • MR physics
  • MR sequences
  • scientific programming (C/C++, MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • pulse sequence development environment IDEA

The position is limited to 2 years (extendable). The position can in principle be part-time.
